What is Ihit le Ihitoch Women's Support Group? [የእህት ለእህቶች መረዳጃ ማህበር ማነው?]

At Ihit le Ihitoch Women’s Support Group, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of Ethiopian and Eritrean women and children living in the UK facing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) by providing empowerment, safety, advice and support. We provide advocacy, confidence and skills building, and awareness raising on VAWG particularly domestic abuse issues.

Our group is non-political and non-religious oriented, purely focusing on improving the lives of habesha women and their families.

እህት ለእህቶች መረዳጃ ማህበር በእንግሊዝ አገር የሚኖሩ በሴቶች ላይ የሚደርስ ጥቃት እየተሰቃዩ ያሉ የኤርትራዊ እና ኢትዮጵያዊ እህቶቻችንና ልጆቻቸውን ለማገዝ የተቋቋመ ነው። መስራቾቹ የእህት ወገኖቻቸውን ህይወት የተሻለ እንዲሆን ቆርጠው የተነሱ ናቸው። በራስ የመተማመንና ሙያ አገዝ ስልጠናዎች፣ የምክር አገልግሎቶችን እንዲሁም ለማህበረሰቡ በሴቶች ላይ የሚደርስ ጥቃትን ለማስወገድ የግንዛቤና እውቅና ስልጠናዎችን እንሰጣለን።

ማህበራችን ከፓለቲካና ሀይማኖት ክፍፍሎች ሙሉ በሙሉ ነፃ ሆኖ ሙሉ በሙሉ የሀበሻ ሴቶችና ልጆቻቸውን ህይወት ማሻሻል ላይ ያተኮረ ነው።

1 Jan 2025: See our highlights of 2024:

We have provided a one-to-one needs-based advocacy, advice and support service for twenty-five women.
We have held an ongoing bi-weekly online support group providing parenting, understanding VAWG, self-care and confidence-building sessions. An average of ten women continue to attend the sessions.
We have created a supportive community and peer-to-peer support network for mothers and their children through virtual meetings and in-person summer activities.
We ran online English and communication lessons tailored to the needs of ten members of the group. These twice weekly English lessons took place in the evenings over the course of three months based on the priority of the women’s needs. The women benefitted greatly from the sessions which helped to boost their confidence, but they could not continue due to lack of funding.
The first batch of the 12-weeks ‘OWN MY LIFE’ course in Amharic was delivered for six survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. The course helps survivors have a deep insight into understanding the impact of trauma on their lives, mind, body, relationships, choices and world; it enables them to move forward to a new chapter of their lives.
We conducted two focus groups which led to research-based reports in collaboration with Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse and Project Dldl (SOAS), highlighting the intersectional challenges in accessing health services and understanding the extent of domestic abuse in the community. 25 ህዳር 2023 (እኤአ): በየአመቱ ከህዳር 25 እስከ ታህሳስ 10 (የሰብአዊ መብቶች ቀን) - ለእስር ስድስት ቀናት በፃታላይ መሰረት ያደረጉ አመፅና ጥቃቶችን ለመግታት አለም አቀፍ ዘመቻ ይካሄዳል። የ2023 ዘመቻ ዋናው መልእክት: "በሴቶች እና ልጃገረዶች ላይ የሚደርሰውን አመፅ ለማቆም የሴቶች ማህበራትና እንቅስቃሴዎችን በገንዘብ ድጋፍ እናድርግ"
